Milestone One: Project Guidelines Update

Hi All,

Hope this first week is off to a good start for all of you! I want to bring your attention to some outdated information that is published in your Milestone One assignment directions. There are instructions indicating the following statement under Milestone One: Project Proposal and Company Information:

“Use the “Company Information” paragraph on page 87 of your text as a guide for the business description contents.”

Please disregard referencing this page in your text as it does not pertain to your current handbook. SNHU is aware of this information and will update these directions going forward. You may do individual research to reference other Company’s Information in its place to complete this assignment. If you choose to do so, please also add citations to your paper of the publication / website you are referencing as this is good practice to ensure you are meeting proper paper writing requirements.

Please reach out for any questions, I’m happy to assist!

Thank you,

Professor Vanessa

Milestone Two: Environmental and Industry Analysis

As your course project, each of you will be tasked with completing and submitting a business plan. The business plan requirements have been provided for your ongoing reference in the Module One Resources content area.

Chapter 3 gives a good overview of Environmental issues, while the article located in the module reading and resources area will support your analysis.

The Environmental Analysis consists of two major elements, 1) an analysis of the internal factors that effect a small business and 2) external factors that effect a small business. The internal analysis assesses the strengths and weaknesses of your company. It identifies what it is that your company can do well, as well as what it can do better. The external analysis assesses the opportunities and threats present at the time the business plan is written. Use the external analysis to identify trends and changes that are happening outside of a company’s control (at the local, national, and/or international levels) which may influence the future of the business. Such external categories as economic, competitive, legal, political, cultural, and technological can all affect your business and should be included in the external analysis.

Also, you will do an Industry Analysis that will describe the industry within which your business will operate. The major focus of this section is on specific industry trends.

To complete this assignment, review the prompt and grading rubric in the Final Project Guidelines And Rubric document. When you have finished your work, submit the assignment here for grading and instructor feedback.

2-1 Discussion: Ethics and Business

Andy Sikorski posted May 13, 2021 11:57 PM

Good evening Everyone,

I have selected the Lego company to write about in this discussion. The social responsibility covers a wide range for Lego. With children representing their main target demographic. The company’s main goal for children is their, learning to play initiative. Which helps kids develop skills that will help them tackle the challenges that lie ahead. Their goal is to bring learning through play to eight million kids per year by 2022. Having a environmental ear to the ground the company is embarking on a challenging mission before us is to make all core LEGO products from sustainable materials by 2030. Their packaging is another mission that they aim by 2025, all LEGO packaging will be made from renewable or recycled materials. Their corporate environment is something they take pride in when it comes to being inclusive, motivating, and safe. As well as creating a responsible place for their employees to work in. The company isn’t just holding itself and its employees to a high standard of ethical conduct. Any suppliers and partners must adhere to our responsible business principles. This 360 degree coverage on ethics makes the company stand out in the business world as well as the communities they are involved with helping and developing the best option for success.

There are many variations of ways that a company can demonstrate social responsibility, ethical behavior, and good corporate/community citizenship. Actually, making it happen takes the company and puts in a light that shows people they don’t mess around. A company like Lego, sets the tone with the youngest of generations and aims to help them out now and set them up for success in the future. All while setting their employees up for the same continued success. The next time you see Lego’s you might think of them a little differently knowing they are a sound and just company looking to make a positive impact in the world.

Cheers. Andy.

Module 2 Discussion

There are a few ways that I believe a company should demonstrate social responsibility, ethical behavior, and good corporate/community citizenship. One of the ways is that the company should be promoting to its customers positivity. Some companies do not flat out say that people should look a certain way but the way that they advertise speaks volumes to what they mean and actually think. This kind of negativity could have a negative impact on its customers especially the younger generation customers. When it comes to ethical behavior, a company should do what is right for the people and the planet and not just to make the most profit even when it means harming human beings and the planet. When companies don’t have this in mind and they choose profit over ethical decisions it says a lot about the people in charge of the company. Good corporate/community citizenship, in my eyes, is a company that is involved with their community and the people that live in it.

A company that I feel follows my thoughts in these areas is Patagonia. There are a number of ways that this company is surpasses expectations in all three of these categories all while making a profit. Small and large businesses should aim to emulate Patagonia because of how much the company cares about the planet, the social issues that are being addressed every year, as well as supporting communities all around the world.
