  1. Have you ever experienced a death as a child or have known of a family where the child(ren) experienced death? How old were you or the child(ren)? How did you (children) react to the death? What about the funeral ceremony and burial? Did you (children) do anything unusual? If not a personal experience please respond from the perspective of what you could imagine for a child losing a loved one may need during the bereavement process?
  2. If you were an effective professional counselor (or in another helping profession), you would need to have a good understanding and awareness of your own feelings, beliefs and attitudes in order to reach out and help others. Suppose a dying client asked you to describe your core feelings, beliefs and attitudes about death and dying in only six (6) words. What six (6) words would you state? How can these core items help or hinder you when you are attempting to assist someone else who is in a death and dying situation?
  3. Upon initial diagnosis of a terminal illness most people do not believe they will die and do not make changes to their lifestyles. What impact does denial play in overcoming and coping with a terminal illness? Compare and contrast the impact of dying at home surrounded by family with dying in a facility with love ones around you.
  4. Grief and loss is significant in the death of parent, spouse, child or pet explain how the death can impact the family and how each loss differs from the other.
